Strategies for graduation

Internships are a great way to start in your field.  Follow up with connections from your internship about new opportunities at the organization, opportunities in the field, or recommendations.

Networking events can help expand your existing network of people who are in your field or similar fields.  You will find in that over the course of your career it is important to have a connections in many fields for job opportunities, projects, or collaborations. 

Taking a break after graduation can be a great option to rest and relax after college.  It can help to get some clarity on your next steps, where to search for career opportunities, examine graduate school options, or focus on the type of work you are looking for. 

Asking individuals who work in your field for an informational interview can be a great way to gain insight into your field.  These can be 20-30-minute conversations where you can ask specific questions about your field, the opportunities, and what are the expectations of working in the field.

Let your network know what opportunities you are looking for.  This can lead to referrals or recommendations for job opportunities.  In addition, this lets your network support you in your career journey.

Every field has a specialty.  Find a way to specialize in your field that will make you unique.  This can be a specific area of focus that you obtain a certificate in, conduct extra research, or learn.  It will also help employers to get to know you and your skill set.
